You will need the following materials for this activity:
1) Plate
2) Number Cards
3) Poms Poms
Here’s how you can carry out the activity:
Step 1: Place a number card on the plate.
Step 2: Invite child to match the number of poms poms with the number shown on the card.
Step 3: Repeat with another number!
You can try this activity with other materials too! Instead of using a plate and poms poms, you can use a basket and bigger plastic balls.
Place a number card into the basket, and get your child to put in the right amount of balls.
The use of bigger plastic balls makes it easier for your child to grasp the objects and complete the activity. The main idea here is to provide a chance for your child to learn numeracy skill, and learn how to match number of items to the number shown on the card.
Some of you parents may be looking for an extension on this activity, and here's a suggestion of what you can do!
You can incorporate a simple part-part-whole relationship and get your child to practice addition. Here's how you can go about running the activity with your child:
Step 1: Place 2 number cards on the smaller segment of the plate.
Step 2: Encourage your child to match the number of poms poms with the number shown on the card respectively.
